Step into the world of the little people with lifelike dioramas that include enchanted valleys, the circus, Olde London Towne of 1670, the battlefield and the Great Canadian Railway. Girls will love peering into two of the world’s largest dollhouses, one of which has over fifty rooms.

Located in Brentwood Bay just down the road from the Butchart Gardens, thousands of tropical plants, over 200 species of orchids and up to seventy-five different butterfly species from around the world festoon the atrium style gardens. Many species of tropical birds wing from tree to vine, and the emerging window provides a real-time glimpse into hatching pupae.


Activities for children in Victoria- Saanich Commonwealth PoolIf you end up with a wet day or two, but the kids just have to go swimming, take them to the pool at Saanich Commonwealth Place. The centre has a wave pool, waterslide and tot pool to keep the kids happy. A fitness centre, lap pool, steam room and sauna will entertain the adults. The pool is ten minutes from downtown and near Elk Lake at 4636 Elk Lake Drive.

Activities for children in Victoria- Wildplay Element ParksIf your crew needs to burn off some steam, WildPlay Element Parks are the perfect way to do it. Located on the West Shore (Colwood) and in Nanaimo, WildPlay involves challenging aerial courses completed high above the ground moving from tree to tree, involving zip lines, swings, rope ladders and wobbly bridges. The parks have courses designed for children and adults that will leave you breathless and exhilarated.


Activities for children in Victoria- Fort Rod HillContinuing with the outdoor theme includes a stop at Colwood’s Fort Rodd Hill, a decommissioned coastal artillery defence station, now a National Historic Site of Canada. View the Fort as originally constructed, including gun batteries, magazines, and guardhouses, complete with interpretive signage. A number of traditional and high-tech games enable children to explore the lighthouse as well as GPSpy, a game allowing youngsters with supplied GPS units to uncover the secrets of the Fort.


Activities for children in Victoria- Beacon Hill Petting ZooDon’t forget the beaches and walking trails throughout the city, plus the many parks such as Beacon Hill Park. Located just up the road from the children’s playground at the park is the Beacon Hill Children’s Farm with all kinds of hands-on farm animals such as the ever-popular goat petting area. The farm is open 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. during summer, weather permitting. Admission is by donation.
